In Season: November
With such an array of fruit, veg, meat and fish, make way for an explosion of flavour this November.
At this time of year, root vegetables really come into their own. Carrots, parsnips and potatoes are, of course, perennial favourites but you must also try turnips and salsify. With a beige, woody skin, salsify may not be the most glam veg around but it certainly makes a delicious side to a Sunday roast, either roasted alongside your meat or whizzed into a puree.
If you've already had your fill of meaty roasts, fish including mackerel, monkfish and haddock are also great at this time of year. All three are incredibly versatile and work well in a variety of cuisines. Grill and serve with a salad or take inspiration from the Indian subcontinent and make a warming fish curry.
